Supermoon: Biggest, brightest moon of year to come Saturday
May 4th 2012, 16:14

NEW YORK –  The biggest and brightest full moon of the year will arrive Saturday night as our celestial neighbor passes closer to Earth than usual.

It's called a supermoon. But don't expect any spike in crime or crazy behavior because of it. The notion of people doing weird things because of a full moon is just folklore.

The moon will pass about 15,000 miles closer to Earth than average. That will make it appear bigger than usual, although it will be hard to see the difference. Like any full moon, it will look bigger when it's hanging close to the horizon, which happens around sunset.
