Detroit aquarium vandalized, 60 fish found dead Jun 2nd 2012, 22:34 DETROIT – Broadcast reports say about 60 fish have been found dead in the Belle Isle Aquarium on the same weekend Detroit's island park is hosting the Grand Prix. WWJ-AM and television stations WXYZ and WDIV report volunteers on Saturday morning found three tanks filled with the dead fish as well as a half-empty bottle of bleach. The fish were gourami, tilapia and catfish. The aquarium planned to keep regular hours this weekend for the first time since closing in 2005. A fundraiser this past week was held to permanently reopen the historic building. The Belle Isle Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday afternoon. The IndyCar race last ran on the Detroit River island in 2008. | |
