Google cancels Nexus event, new gadgets revealed anyway
Oct 29th 2012, 12:16

Google had plans to unveil a new Nexus tablet on Monday, but a formidable hurricane forced the company to cancel its big Android press conference.

While the world will have to wait a short while longer to meet the high-resolution Nexus 10 tablet (and the Nexus 4 smartphone), another likely announcement was some shifting in the Nexus 7 lineup. Even though the event was canceled, at least one retailer has pushed ahead with the changes anyway.

First picked up by DroidLife, nationwide retailer Office Depot has slashed the price of the 16GB Nexus 7 to $199 from $249, a 20 percent drop. Taking its place at the $249 price point is the new 32GB model, which hardly comes as a surprise.

Google's Nexus 7 tablet features a 7-inch 1,280 × 800-pixel display, a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. With the 16GB model replacing the 8GB version at $199, Google's debut tablet is now a better value than ever.
